Joe Fenton – ‘Solitude’ 2010/2011

I stumbled upon this amazing piece of art by Joe Fenton. The detail is outstanding. You can see the progress of his work at his behance page. Below are just a couple of photos. You can also ‘like’ him on facebook www.facebook.com/joefentonartist.

Things I like, and hope you will too.

I’ve been doing a lot of online research lately and I though I would share some neat things as well as sources I use frequently. Hopefully you find this interesting and/or resourceful. Enjoy!

1. The Power of Social Media

We all know the twitter blunder of the American Red Cross from last year and how it was quickly it was diffused to possibly be considered a marketing success story. None the less, it is one of my favorite examples of how yes, social media marketing has certain risks, but with careful planning and quick reactions, it’s not as scary as many think.

2. Unique Retail Concepts

In addition to getting DDI Magazine, I frequent DDI Online and today they featured this amazing store concept on the home page. Tokkad is located in Quebec City. DDI Online is a great place to check for new retail concepts and ideas. Click here, or the image above to see more from Tokkad.

3. Exhibit Design

I <3 the art of exhibit design, and so does Exhibitor Magazine. Check out their great website, or pick up a copy of their magazine. Exhibitor Magazine recently celebrated their 30th anniversary and released this fabulous article featuring memorable exhibit elements, each with a “takeaway” to help your current exhibiting strategies. There’s nothing like looking at the past to learn how to shape the future.

4. The Beauty Of Packaging

LOVE the DieLine. I received Box Bottle Bag from a colleague for Christmas and read it from front to back. I still flip through it when I need inspiration. There’s something about three dimensional design that I find inspiring. The DieLine also has a great website. My favorite sections to browse are “Before & After” and “Student Spotlight

jmichaels

Well I’ve definitely been keeping busy, but I have finally managed to take the time to put a couple of recent projects online (under packaging). The ingreen hang tags and jmichaels holiday packaging are the newest additions. I will also be adding a jmichaels spring 2012 booklet to the publication page today. That project was a lot of work because I had to bring it from concept to completion in a small amount of time. I hope my novice photography skills will do it justice! :)

Post-Move

After moving across the country and having a nice relaxing week in my home town near Toronto, I am finally back on the job hunt. It’s exciting to see that there are a number of great opportunities buzzing around. I am still planning on upgrading my website, but it looks like that will need to be postponed for a little while. Job hunting and freelancing seem to be taking up a lot of my time!

Feels good to have finally graduated (with distinction yay!) and it especially feels good to be out in the real world. Can’t wait to see what the future holds! Thanks to my instructors, mentors, family and friends who stuck by me through the whole thing :)

Say Cheese!

As I have mentioned before, we are preparing for our grad show.  The catalogue team set up a photo shoot so we can have nice photos of ourselves beside our work.  They did an AMAZING job!  Tianna Kwong and Kat Lee did a lot of great work.  It was a long day for them, but I think they should be pleased with the results!!

Hi friends! Its been a while!

My, my! Has it been a long time or what? I have been so busy this past few weeks with school, especially our grad show! Its all starting to come together now. I am a part of the exhibit design team with my lovely partners Nathalie Uribe, Nikole Japuncic, Sammi Lee and Mahyar Saeedi.  The work is long and hard, but we’re having a great time and solving some very challenging design problems!  I’m excited to see it all come together :)

Floor Plan

You will be able to come see our show from May 2 – May 14, 2011 at the Pendulum Gallery.  Its going to be a wonderful display of Major Projects, Portfolios and 3D packaging items.  Stay tuned for more information on the event and our progress!!
